Moving House in Nepal: A Practical Checklist
Work backwards from your move date and most of the stress disappears.
Four weeks before
- Give written notice to your current landlord and keep a copy.
- Book a moving truck — rates rise sharply around Dashain and Tihar.
- Book the internet transfer or a new connection; installation can take a week.
One week before
- Photograph the old property once emptied, for your deposit claim.
- Note final electricity and water meter readings with the landlord present.
- Confirm parking and lift access at the new building for moving day.
Moving day
- Do a joint walkthrough of the new property and record existing damage in writing.
- Collect all keys, and check gates, taps, flushes, switches and the inverter.
- Get a signed receipt for the deposit and first month's rent.
After you move
- Update your address for banking and delivery services.
- Save your landlord's number and the local ward office contact.
- Set a rent reminder — consistent on-time payments raise your rental credit score.
